The TRIO Upward Bound Math and Science program at the Center for College Access and Success of Northeastern Illinois University provides the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics Saturday Academy to students enrolled at our partner schools in CPS, Cicero and Berwyn that received free or reduced lunch and are the first in their family to seek a post-secondary degree in STEM.
The Saturday STEAM Academy in the Fall of 2016 will focus on Environmental Academic Research through the use of Underwater Robotics. Eligible students will engage in hands-on project-based activities that are career-oriented every Saturday at Northeastern Illinois University from October 8th to December 17th, 2016. Students will learn about math and science concepts that relate to the design of underwater robots. The design of the ROV's will promote student's understanding and application of the Engineering Design Model. During the course of the 10 weeks, Saturday STEAM Robotics Academy students will build their own ROV using SeaPerch and SeaMate technology, develop a research project that focuses on the Environment and that utilizes the ROV for data collection, Present finding at our Saturday STEAM Robotics Academy Fall 2016 Symposium and participate in our Underwater Robotics Competition.
This project will collaborate with After School Matter and will also manage the assessment and delivery of the Badges to participating ASM students in the Saturday STEAM Robotics Academy Fall 2016.
