Rube Goldberg Inventor's Camp

Homewood Science Center

Inspired by the famed engineer and cartoonist...this inventor’s camp challenges your child to brainstorm and build a complex contraption ala Rube Goldberg style! Grades: 5-8 Time: 9:00-Noon Dates: July 16 | 17 | 18 | 19 | 20 Class size: 15 Cost: $175/child | includes all supplies Bring a Buddy: $280 Teacher: Tracey Mis We’ll set a foundation and start with six basic simple machines: wheel & axle, wedge, lever, inclined plane, pulley, and screw. From there, kids will team up to design, construct, and test a Rube Goldberg-like device that completes a task. What kind of mechanisms, gizmos, or apparatuses can we create when simple machines are used together in a chain of energy transfers? We challenge young inventors to create a cool contraption at this week long camp. Children should bring a peanut free snack with them to camp.
