ASM - After School Instructor

The After School Instructor reports to the Youth Program Coordinator and provides After School Matters program content and schedules students to receive tutoring based on their academic needs.


  • Provide tutoring designed to assist high school students in preparing for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
  • Provide diversified, guided activities that supplement learning goals for students as needed, if needed.
  • Work together with other staff to lead small group discussions and workshops on selected topics as needed.
  • Expose a diverse group of teen participants to various facets of content area-specific industry while fostering a positive, safe, and collaborative atmosphere for all teen participants.
  • Maintain knowledge of current industry trends, technology and concepts
  • Prepare, organize, and supervise the weekly lessons on content area
  • Develop, plan, and implement high-quality related field trips, master classes, events, and guest visits to enhance instruction and training
  • Provide supervision during program field trips and other youth engagement opportunities
  • Report all problems or concerns and program updates to After School Matters Program Specialist to maintain consistent lines of communication throughout the program session
  • Attend all planning and program dates, including: Instructor orientation, professional development workshops, meetings and other required sessions
  • Participate in the recruitment, interview, and selection process of teen program participants
  • Manage and track program activities such as attendance, interview outcomes, enrollment, evaluation surveys, and pertinent student records in an online data tracking system (CitySpan).
  • Other duties as assigned.

· Current college student or college graduate


· Fluency in spoken and written English, bilingual in English and Chinese preferred.

· Basic computer skills required, including Microsoft Office, online search, and entering.

· Good communication skills with youth and parents.

· Basic end-user level understanding and experience with Salesforce is a plus.

· Demonstrated practical knowledge of content area

· Creative problem-solving skills

· Customer service skills; ability to effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholders (teen participants, parents, ASM programs staff, vendors, etc.)

Open to ages 18+, who have graduated from high school. The hours are a bit flexible, but during the academic year hours are from 3:00 - 6:00 pm. There is an art program and an internship program. The art program is teaching students ages 14 - 15 and the internship is teaching students 16 - 20.
