Activity Directions

100 Level - No experience necessary

Museums wouldn’t exist without the materials to create objects. If you look close, you’ll notice that a lot of these materials are things you might use everyday. How are different everyday materials used in art, science and nature?

Pick an object in an exhibit and figure out what materials are used to make it. An object might include natural and man-made materials etc. Imagine you are taking the object apart and ask yourself “what’s this telescope made of,” or “what’s this nest made of”?

To complete this activity:

  1. Take a photo of the object.
  2. Create a shopping list. If you were to make this at home, what would you need?
  3. Submit your photo and list of materials.
