Ultimate Reflectors have demonstrated an advanced ability to analyze, think critically, synthesize information, and flexibly adapt to situations accordingly. They recognize the value of self-reflection and are able to assess their own performance, learning, and progress throughout an experience. Working in groups, they are able to collectively reflect, communicate their ideas in productive and respectful ways, and support shifting, often complex projects. Ultimate Reflectors routinely tackle questions such as “What challenges or barriers to access do you recognize at the museum? How might we innovate on youth programming at the museum?” and “What is impact and in what ways do youth make impact at the Art Institute?”Reflections take the form of written responses, creative visual responses that symbolize their experiences, or presentations to be shared with peers, families, and other stakeholders. Youth that earn at least 3 eligible badges (Ultimate Reflector, Mission Builder, Arts Leader and/or All-Star Cultural Producer) unlock the Service Learning Badge, which is equivalent to one service learning project of 15 hours.

Critera

  1. Youth will engage in an in-depth reflection of their experiences in the museum through a variety of means, including: • Creating written responses to questions such as “What impact do you think you had on the museum this year?” and “If you could do this program all over again, what would you do differently and why?” • Creating some sort of creative reflection using an art technique of choice to symbolize their experiences • Presenting out about their experience to museum staff, stakeholders, and family in a final program celebration Youth will submit artifacts that they used to reflect on their experiences, such as • a link to a blog post about their experiences • text responses to reflection questions • audio recordings of a reflection conversation • visual pieces that were created in response to reflection prompts • A copy of a presentation about their experiences
